If you are still struggling with the post-winter blues, then the time is now to spring into life – just in time for the change of season!
Feelings of fatigue are not uncommon at this time of year and it can understandably be difficult to keep your energy levels and motivation up.
The following tips are our tried and tested ways for moving into a sunnier season with abundant energy and positive intentions!
Tackle Sources of Stress
Stress can be a serious downer on your mood and your energy levels. It can prevent you from wanting to give your best effort to each day and make you more likely to experience anxiety and other negative feelings.
When it comes to dealing with stress, it is important to tackle these issues directly. Dealing with a negative situation head on is the best way to ensure that you find a genuine resolution!
When your mind is clear from stress you will notice that you have much more energy and enthusiasm – even for the most mundane of tasks!
Eat Smaller Meals
Eating small, healthy meals regularly during each day can help to keep your energy levels up and combat fatigue. Doing so gives you a stable supply of energy to get you through each day. Also, if you are someone who really enjoys eating, then you will be giving yourself regular doses of this small, tasty pleasure!
A Little Something Extra
Making healthy choices at mealtimes is fantastic, but there are sneaky ways that you can enhance even the most nutritious of meals.
You may try a sprinkle of chia seeds on top of each meal, or a combination of other nutrient dense seeds, such as pumpkin seeds, hemp seeds, sesame seeds and sunflower seeds! The key here is to up the energy boosting nutritional profile of your meal without making a noticeable different to taste or texture!
We suggest that you purchase a selection of different seeds and then mix them together in a jar that you can keep in the kitchen. You can then make it a habit to add a spoonful every time you eat.
Establish an Exercise Routine
Far from draining your energy further, regular exercise can help you to feel more energised in the long run.
If you really feel too tired to do any intense exercise during your free time, then start super small and begin to work your way up. The HSE recommends that adults participate in at least 30 minutes a day of moderate intensity activity, five days a week – so this is a great target to aim for!
Prioritise Your Sleep
If you are not sleeping well then all of your other efforts to enhance your energy and fight fatigue will be for nothing! Sleep is so important that it should always be your priority, and creating a bedtime ritual can help you to get good quality sleep.
First of all, give yourself a bedtime and make sure your sleep space is clean, cosy and clutter-free. Secondly, always leave your phone turned off and outside of the bedroom!
It also helps if you give yourself up to an hour of winding down time before bed where you do something relaxing, such as reading, light exercise or meditation.
Incorporating my aforementioned tips into your routine can help you to enhance your mood, boost your energy, and shake off feelings of fatigue in time to enjoy all that spring brings!
