You get cramps when you eat pasta

A pasta dinner is one of the life’s most delicious and cheapest pleasures, but if you can’t take part without experiencing stomach pain, nausea and abdominal cramps after eating something with gluten then it may not agree with you. If you struggle to remember what causes your symptoms, keep a food diary for a few weeks and you’ll soon start to see a pattern.

You bloat. A lot

You lose weight without trying

This one may seem a little odd, but if your body can’t digest gluten then other nutrients aren’t being absorbed. In a nutshell your body isn’t taking what it needs from food. Of course other factors can be at a play, but involuntary weight loss is a primary symptom of coeliac disease.

Your toilet habits are irregular

Everyone has a different normal when it comes to poo, but if yours go to either side of extreme then there could be something in your diet that needs to be changed. Diarrhoea or constipation are not normal digestive functions and can often be associated with diet. Again, keeping a food diary is an easy way to notice a pattern.

You want to nap. All the time

Consider that food is fuel, so what we put into our bodies is going to directly impact our energy levels. If you can’t tolerate gluten your body spends an extraordinary amount of energy on trying to process it instead of on energy. If you feel lethargic and tired all the time investigate the cause.
